Driver killed in Sacramento after speeding Maserati goes airborne, strikes 4 other vehicles

Roadway fatality

A driver speeding through a South Sacramento intersection Wednesday has died after his car went airborne and hit four other vehicles.

About 2 p.m., a 56-year-old male was driving a 2016 Maserati coupe, going 90 mph and attempting a left turn before the car lost control as the traffic light turned green at the intersection of 47th Avenue and Steiner Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Maserati driver crashed into a median and the car became airborne before hitting four other vehicles and landing on its roof on a small bridge rail bordering the road and a sidewalk, according to CHP. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was the sole occupant.

The Maserati driver was transported to the hospital with major injuries, where he later died. Three drivers and one passenger from the other vehicles sustained minor injuries.

Responders were on scene for nearly two hours to clear the wreckage and investigate the collision.
