Sacramento man, 39, killed in Northern California motorcycle crash, CHP officials say

Roadway fatality

A Sacramento man was killed in a solo motorcycle crash Monday evening near Grass Valley, authorities said.

A 2012 Harley-Davidson traveling southbound on Allison Ranch Road near Mote Lane crashed around 7:50 p.m., the California Highway Patrol’s Grass Valley office said in a news release.

Investigators determined the rider failed to handle a right-hand curve in the roadway, crossing into oncoming traffic and then off the east edge of Allison Ranch Road. The motorcycle then struck an embankment and overturned before hitting tree stumps, according to the CHP news release.

The rider, described by the CHP as a 39-year-old Sacramento man, was ejected from the motorcycle near the tree stumps and suffered major injuries. He was transported by Grass Valley Fire Department personnel to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation by the CHP. The motorcycle was traveling at unknown speed and it is not known whether drugs or alcohol impairment played a role, according to the news release.

The victim’s identity will be released by Nevada County coroner’s officials pending notification of family.
