Plane crashed near UC Davis airport; vegetation fire extinguished nearby, university says

Plane crash

A small plane crashed Thursday morning near the UC Davis airport. No serious injuries were reported.

The UC Davis Fire Department and campus police responded shortly after 11:20 a.m. to a small plane occupied by a solo pilot that crashed following takeoff, according to a university news release.

The pilot reported “smoke and flames in the cockpit” and initiated a “forced landing in a field near Vineyard Lane, south of Putah Creek,” university officials wrote.

The pilot exited the plane on their own, according to the news release. Arriving firefighters performed first aid, and the pilot declined transport to a hospital.

Fire crews extinguished a small vegetation fire in the area.

University Airport is located just west of Highway 113 and the UC Davis main campus. The plane crashed south of Putah Creek, according to dispatchers.
