A fire that broke out near a south Sacramento homeless encampment grew to three acres, catching a nearby home, before it was stopped Monday afternoon.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded midday Monday to a fire on the 7700 block of Lenhart Road. Upon arrival, they found that a vegetation fire had broken out and pushed into one home’s attic, and was threatening surrounding structures.

Three acres of land were charred before firefighters stopped it. Crews were able to save the “vast majority” of the house the fire entered, Metro Fire spokesman Capt. Parker Wilbourn said. None of the surrounding houses or structures were damaged.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
