California man killed in Sierra after crashing his pickup truck into a tree, authorities say

Police tape at crime scene

A man died Monday night in the Auburn area after crashing his truck into a tree, authorities said.

Around 10:50 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers responded to Auburn Folsom Road just south of Indian Hill Road on reports of a crash. Upon arrival, they found that a man had crashed his Ford F-450 truck into a tree while driving southbound.

The man, a 31-year-old from Atwater, was pronounced dead at the scene, said CHP Auburn office spokesman Sgt. Brad Robinson. Further identifying information was not available.

No other individuals were involved in the crash, Robinson said. The truck did damage a nearby fence while pivoting after hitting the tree.

Officers do not believe that the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.

The crash, which occurred just outside of the Auburn city limits, shut down a stretch of Auburn Folsom Road for two hours Monday night. It has since been reopened.
