Sacramento Valley Station was evacuated Tuesday evening after a cleaning product was used improperly in the restroom, creating a buildup of toxic air.

Sacramento fire department spokesman Capt. Keith Wade said a janitor at the train station accidentally created a buildup of the drain cleaning product Drano while cleaning the restroom.

The Amtrak station, located at 401 I St., was closed when the fire department’s Haz-Mat team responded to the incident at 8:40 p.m., Wade said.

After employees were evacuated, the Haz-Mat response team provided ventilation and cleanup, and Wade said the space was deemed safe around 10 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
