Firefighters contained a small vegetation fire Wednesday morning along the American River near Carmichael, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said.

The fire sparked around 5:30 a.m. near a homeless encampment at Ancil Hoffman Park, Metro Fire said in social media posts, and reached about a quarter-acre prior to containment shortly before 7 a.m.

No injuries were reported, and the fire did not threaten structures. Metro Fire required additional resources in its response due to “difficult terrain” in the area, the agency tweeted.

Metro Fire officials wrote that the stretch of river just east of Carmichael has seen “several similar fires recently.”

Wednesday’s fire remains under investigation.
