Update: Butte County town lifts evacuation in area around City Hall. Here’s what happened
Officials lifted an evacuation order after a gas leak Saturday afternoon affected a square block in the Butte County town of Biggs.
The Butte County Sheriff’s Office issued the evacuation order at 2:20 p.m. for B and C streets, between Fifth and Sixth streets. The block, in the middle of Biggs, contains the town’s City Hall and library as well as an All Stop gas station.
The Sheriff’s Office wrote in a social media post that the evacuation was due to a natural gas leak.
Officials lifted the evacuation order about an hour later after determining the block was safe.
