Man pulled from underwater in American River in Sacramento. Here’s how he was rescued

Drowning incident depicts emergency personnel in boats and water

Bystanders rescued a man submerged in the American River and rendered aid Sunday before emergency personnel airlifted him to a hospital, the Sacramento Fire Department said.

The victim, described as a man in his 40s, had been underwater near Camp Pollock for about three minutes, the Fire Department said in social media posts about 8 p.m. Bystanders pulled him out and started giving him CPR before fire crews arrived.

A Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District helicopter then took the man to a hospital for treatment at a trauma center, city fire officials said.

The victim’s status at the hospital was unknown, the Fire Department tweeted Sunday night.

Camp Pollock is located on the American River Parkway just west of Highway 160 and Northgate Boulevard.
