Cameron Park man killed in south Sacramento County crash identified by coroner

Roadway fatality

Coroners’ officials have identified the driver killed in an early Tuesday crash in the Vineyard area of south Sacramento County that also seriously injured a passenger in the car.

The driver was identified as Gerard Martin Aguilar, 21, of Cameron Park, according to Sacramento County Coroner’s officials. The crash happened about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday near Grant Line Road, Sheldon Lake Drive and Sunrise Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP investigators say Aguilar was traveling south on Sunrise Boulevard at a high rate of speed when he continued through the intersection at Grant Line Road. Investigators say the car did not stop, missing a left-hand curve on the roadway onto Sheldon Lake Road.

The car struck a drainage ditch and overturned several times. The vehicle then struck a parked car in a driveway, flipped again and ejected the female passenger. Both driver and passenger were taken to a local hospital where Aguilar later died, according to CHP officials.

Investigators believe alcohol played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
