Two people were injured, one of them seriously, after a speeding vehicle hit a power pole early Monday morning in Old North Sacramento, fire officials said.

Crews responded to the crash around 12:30 a.m. near Arden Way and Del Paso Boulevard, the Sacramento Fire Department said in tweets.

One occupant of the vehicle required extrication by the Fire Department and was taken to a hospital in “critical condition,” the Fire Department wrote. A second occupant was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The force of the high-speed crash “sheared” the power pole in half, spilling electrical components onto the sidewalk and roadway, according to the Fire Department.

According to a Sacramento Municipal Utility District outage map, about 1,800 customers near the area of the crash lost power overnight. As of 8 a.m. Monday, no widespread outages were reported.
