Sacramento police to conduct DUI checkpoint Friday night. Here’s where

Think twice before you get behind the wheel Friday night.

Sacramento Police Department will hold a DUI checkpoint between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. on Friday in the area of Howe and University avenues in the Campus Commons section of the city.

“Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests,” Sacramento Police Department wrote in a statement.

During the sobriety checkpoint, police will determine if drivers are under the influence of alcohol and drugs, including prescription and over-the-counter medications.

Remember: While medical and recreational marijuana are legal in Sacramento, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.

“Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license,” Sacramento Police Department wrote in a statement.

Simply put: If you plan on taking any type of substance that may impair your ability to drive, stay home.
