The Homecoming dance this weekend at Davis Senior High School was hit with a postponement for an unusual reason: Bats reportedly were seen at the venue, according to the school district.

Davis Joint Unified School District announced in a Facebook post that it was notified Friday that bats were seen in the North Gym where the dance was to be held.

The district said it immediately consulted with Yolo County Animal Control and professionals who specialize in bat abatement. It was determined that the bats could not be removed from the gym in time for Saturday night’s dance.

With no other viable option, according to the district, it was forced to reschedule and will look to do so as soon as possible.
