A driver was killed and the motorist’s young passenger seriously injured when a Union Pacific train collided with a car Monday in Lincoln.

Lincoln police and Union Pacific officials are investigating the deadly 5:30 p.m. collision that happened on railroad tracks near the intersection of Lincoln Boulevard and Ferrari Ranch Road.

The northbound train struck the vehicle driving west on Ferrari Ranch, pushing the crumpled vehicle along the tracks in the area of the Auburn Ravine. Rescuers found two people inside the vehicle and tried to revive the driver who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The surviving passenger, identified only as a juvenile, was taken by ambulance to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. The youth’s condition was not known Tuesday.
