Here’s what you need to know about Folsom Green Acres’ Sierra Foothills Rose Show

The rose business is blooming.

The Sierra Foothills Rose Society determined October is one of the best times of year for roses due to its warm days and scheduled its Sierra Foothills Rose Show from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday at the Green Acres Nursery and Supply in Folsom.

Admission is free for patrons, but they will have the opportunity to purchase rose plants as shrubs at the event at a discounted price, according to Green Acres support office marketing director Tami Kint.

Members of the rose society will be on hand to assist attendees with answering questions about rose care, different varieties of roses and the best things to grow, Kint said.

“If you plan accordingly for color, the size of blooms and the fragrance that you like, you can really, truly grow your own,” Kint said “You’ll see that at the roadshow with all of the different entries that come in from people all over and our customers, too, can enter their roses for the show.”

She said the best time to purchase roses is in the winter when they are bare root, however, the best time for blooming is late spring through fall.

According to Kint, this is the fourth year Green Acres has put on the annual event, although this is the first time Green Acres has hosted since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Green Acres Nursery and Supply is located at 205 Serpa Way, Folsom. Sacramento Digs Gardening Digest recommends attendees take the East Bidwell Street exit off U.S. Highway 50.
