A big rig fire and ensuing clean-up shut down northbound Interstate 5 near Walnut Grove in south Sacramento County for about eight hours Thursday, from morning through mid-afternoon.

California Highway Patrol and fire crews responded shortly after 7 a.m. to reports of a fully engulfed semitruck on I-5 just south of Twin Cities Road, on a bridge that spans a slough, according to the CHP’s online activity log.

The CHP said the incident involved three big rigs colliding, one of which caught fire. No one was injured.

Both lanes reopened shortly after 3 p.m., the CHP’s South Sacramento office said.
