The Sacramento Region Community Foundation, which since 1983 has awarded millions to local nonprofits, announced that it has a new CEO.

After a “nationwide search,” the Foundation board chose Kerry Wood — currently the chief marketing and donor engagement officer — to succeed the retiring Linda Beech Cutler it was announced Thursday.

Wood will start her new position Oct. 31, according to Vasey Coman, a spokesperson for the Foundation.

“It is an incredible honor to have the opportunity to lead the Foundation during this pivotal time in our region and in our world,” Wood said. “I am proud of the role the Foundation serves in our community today, and I’m thrilled to work with our talented team, donors, and community partners to continue inspiring philanthropy, strengthening our nonprofit sector, and fostering equitable opportunity for all.”

The Foundation spearheads the region’s Big Day of Giving-- a 24-hour fundraising event started a decade ago for local nonprofits.

In May, the event raised a record $13.4 million for 718 nonprofits, according to the Foundation. During the past 10 years, the event has raised a total of $78 million.

Wood has led “all aspects of philanthropic engagement to ensure a lasting source of funds for the benefit of the Sacramento region” over her five years on the Foundation’s leadership team, according to Coman.

“Kerry is a dynamic and thoughtful leader who is exactly the right leader for this moment and phase of the Foundation’s lifecycle,” said Kate Stille, chair of the Foundation’s board of directors.

The Foundation, along with its fund-holders, has since its inception awarded more than $200 million in grants and scholarships in El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento and Yolo counties, according to Coman.
