These California cities rank the best for Halloween. See where Sacramento stands

Halloween is here and you might be in one of the best cities to celebrate it.

Wallethub, an online personal finance resource, looked into what makes the best Halloween destination, ranking 100 U.S. cities. Ten California cities made it on the top 20 list.

Using a weighted ranking, Wallethub assessed trick-or-treater friendliness, which includes share of potential trick-or-treaters — people 14 years old or younger — walk score, crime rate and share of occupied housing units that serve as trick-or-treat stops.

Other factors evaluated include Halloween costume and party supply stores per capita, candy and chocolate stores per capita, bars and clubs per capita, and forecasted temperature.

Who made the list?

San Francisco is the top California city to make the list, landing at No. 2.

It’s followed by Los Angeles at No. 4, San Diego at No. 5, San Jose at No. 6 and Santa Ana at No. 9.

Rounding out the list of California cities is Anaheim at No. 13, Chula Vista at No. 16, Long Beach at No. 17, Sacramento at No. 18 and Fremont at No. 19.

The best city overall to be in for Halloween is New York, and the worst is Memphis.

Despite getting one of the top spots on the list, San Francisco is the city with the least potential for trick-or-treaters. Milwaukee has the highest potential.

Northern California’s Halloween weather

Several northern California cities ranked high for the best Halloween weather forecast.

Sacramento is at No. 1, with temperatures forecasted at highs near 70.

San Francisco, Fresno and Stockton tied for second place, and San Jose and Oakland tied for fifth.
