Firefighters rescued a woman from a Halloween night house fire in south Sacramento that resulted in serious injuries to one person, authorities said.

Crews responded shortly before midnight Monday to a home in the 4000 block of 43rd Street that had large amounts of fire in its front living room, the Sacramento Fire Department said in social media posts Tuesday.

Firefighters removed a woman from inside the home. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition for treatment at a trauma center after suffering burns and smoke inhalation, spokesman Capt. Keith Wade said in a video posted by the Fire Department.

Wade urged residents to make sure their smoke detectors are in working condition.
