Elk Grove Veterans Day parade returns after hiatus. Here’s where traffic will be affected
Elk Grove’s Veterans Day parade returns Friday for the first time since the pandemic and wildfire smoke shelved the event.
The event begins 10 a.m. at the Cosumnes Community Services District administrative building, 8820 Elk Grove Blvd., with the reading of the names of Elk Grove veterans.
The parade steps off from the district headquarters at 11:11 a.m., the time on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 that marked the end of World War I.
The parade procession wends along Elk Grove Boulevard and heads east onto Elk Grove-Florin Road before concluding at Elk Grove Regional Park.
Motorists will find a number of traffic controls, road closures and detours. Controls will be in place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and motorists are asked to plan accordingly.
▪ Elk Grove Boulevard will be closed to all eastbound and westbound traffic from Williamson Drive to Elk Grove-Florin Road. Traffic from Colton Avenue will be directed westbound on Elk Grove Boulevard to northbound Williamson.
▪ Elk Grove Florin Road will be closed to all southbound traffic from Sierra Street to Park Meadows Drive. All intersecting roads will be blocked.
▪ Vehicles traveling eastbound on Elk Grove Boulevard approaching Williamson Drive will be diverted to the north. Vehicles traveling westbound on Elk Grove Boulevard approaching Elk Grove-Florin Rd. will be diverted onto northbound Elk Grove-Florin Road.
▪ Vehicles traveling southbound on Elk Grove Florin Road will be diverted eastbound on Sierra Street.
▪ Northbound traffic on Elk Grove Florin Rd. approaching the entrance to Elk Grove Regional Park entrance will be diverted onto eastbound Park Meadows.
▪ Motorists traveling east or westbound in Elk Grove are encouraged to use Bond, Sheldon or Grant Line/Kammerer roads as alternate routes during the closure.
The event is hosted by Elk Grove American Legion Post 233.
