Two die after being hit by train in Elk Grove. Union Pacific to handle investigation

Pedestrian fatality

Two people are dead after being struck by a train early Saturday in Elk Grove.

The incident occurred on Union Pacific Railroad property near Elk Grove Boulevard and Railroad Street, according to a tweet from the Elk Grove Police Department.

Because it occurred on railroad property, and not a public street, it is being investigated by Union Pacific police, the Elk Grove agency said.

“This is standard procedure when an incident happens on their property,” Elk Grove police stated.

A spokesperson for Union Pacific did not respond to a Bee request for comment Saturday afternoon.
