Pedestrian fatality

A pedestrian was fatally struck by a pickup truck Tuesday morning in the Lemon Hill section of south Sacramento, California Highway Patrol officials said.

A Toyota Tacoma struck a pedestrian who was crossing Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard south of 43rd Avenue just before 6:30 a.m., the CHP South Sacramento office said in a news release.

The left front end of the Toyota, which was traveling at about 30 mph, struck the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sacramento Fire Department, according to the CHP news release.

The victim, a man, was initially described by the CHP as an unidentified woman. He was identified Wednesday by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as 62-year-old Elton Dawson.

The Toyota driver stopped and called 911, authorities said.
