Rancho Cordova man killed in south Sacramento County two-vehicle crash, CHP says

Roadway fatality

A Rancho Cordova man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Sunday evening in Sacramento County’s Vineyard area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 2016 Ford heading westbound on Florin Road allegedly ran a red light at the intersection with South Watt Avenue and broadsided a 2014 Toyota, the CHP’s South Sacramento office said in a news release.

The Ford, driven by a 38-year-old Elk Grove man, overturned onto its roof. A passenger in the Ford, a 38-year-old Rancho Cordova man who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and ended up in a ditch along Florin Road, according to the news release.

The ejected passenger was transported by fire personnel to a hospital, where he died of his injuries, CHP officials said.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Steven Julio Agosto.

The Toyota driver, described by the CHP as a 56-year-old Sacramento woman, was not injured.

The Ford was traveling at an unknown but high rate of speed, according to the news release. The Toyota, which was heading northbound on South Watt, was traveling at between 30 mph to 40 mph when it was hit.

Drugs and alcohol are not considered to be factors, and no arrests have been made in the fatal crash, which remains under investigation, the CHP said.
