Driver hurt after sedan launches into front of burger joint in midtown Sacramento
A driver was injured Monday morning after losing control of a vehicle that plowed into a popular midtown Sacramento burger stand.
Just after 6 a.m., a Hyundai sedan slammed into Suzie Burger on the 2800 block of P Street at 29th Street, according to the Sacramento Fire Department. The restaurant sits at the intersection of three one-way roads, including an offramp for the Capital City Freeway.
The vehicle ended up wedged at a 45-degree angle halfway through a glass wall of the “classic” diner section, inches from the eatery’s entrance. One outdoor table was destroyed but it’s unclear how much damage was sustained by the building, which was originally constructed as a gas station. The car managed to avoid a pylon that holds up one of the building’s oversized eaves. The “garage” dining portion of Suzie’s and the kitchen were not damaged, according to one employee who arrived to secure the property.
A spokesperson for the Sacramento Police Department said no one was in the building at the time of the collision but the driver was hospitalized — his or her condition was not immediately known.
What led to the crash remains under investigation, police said.
