How much rain fell in Sacramento in the latest storms? Here’s a look at the totals

After weeks of hazardous and windy rainstorms, the latest being over the weekend into Monday, Sacramento is moving toward clear skies.

From Dec. 26 to Jan. 16, National Weather Service has issued 215 flood advisories, 51 flood warnings and 23 flash flood warnings across California. Last weekend’s rain was Sacramento’s final large storm for a while.

Sacramento will experience sunny skies Tuesday before rain returns Wednesday with wind gusts as high as 20 mph. Clear skies are forecast to return Thursday with a high of 50 degrees.

How much rain fell in Sacramento over the weekend?

From Friday to Monday, according to the National Weather Service, roughly 2.3 inches of rain fell across Sacramento.

More than 7 inches of rainfall has already dropped across the region, which is almost twice the normal amount for January.

Here’s a look at how much rain was recorded at the Sacramento rain meter, near Sacramento State, over the weekend:

  • Friday saw .72 inches of rain
  • Saturday saw .95 inches of rain
  • Sunday saw .34 inches of rain
  • Monday saw .30 inches of rain

As of Monday, according to the Department of Water Resources, 53 stations in the Central Sierra Nevada are reporting at 246% above average.

Peak snow season is generally on April 1. As of Monday, snowpack throughout California is above 121% average.

UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab measured more than 4 feet of snow since Friday. More than 13 feet of flakes, the snow lab wrote Tuesday on its Twitter page, has fallen since Jan. 1.
