Fair Oaks woman, 83, killed in head-on crash in Northern California, CHP says
An 83-year-old Sacramento County woman was killed in a head-on crash Tuesday evening in Nevada County, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The two-vehicle collision happened shortly after 5:45 p.m. on Highway 49 near La Barr Meadows Road, about 5 miles south of Grass Valley, the CHP’s Grass Valley unit said in a news release.
A 2014 Acura MDX heading north on Highway 49 and a 1998 Honda Civic heading south collided head-on just north of the intersection, according to the CHP.
The Honda driver, an 83-year-old Fair Oaks woman, became pinned inside her vehicle and died at the scene, CHP officials wrote.
The Acura driver, a 70-year-old Grass Valley woman, was taken to a hospital with mild injuries, authorities said.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, according to the CHP, but the investigation is ongoing.
The victim’s identity will be released by the Nevada County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
