Cool, warm, cool today?

The day is starting cool with a nice Delta breeze delivering air to the valley from the coast. The National Weather Service forecasts the day to warm into the low 90s in Sacramento. Hopefully, by the time the match between the Sacramento Republic and England’s Sunderland begins at 8 p.m., soccer fans won’t be sweating in the stands.

Board eyes water conservation programs

The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors will consider authorizing $1.2 million toward water conservation programs in the Sacramento County Water Agency service area. That includes $350,000 for incentive programs that pay residents to remove turf, upgrade their sprinklers or install a recirculating hot water system. The discussion is scheduled for 2:30 p.m, Sacramento County board chambers, 700 H St., Sacramento.

Sacramento Commons before City Council

The proposed Sacramento Commons project, which would replace 1960s-era low-rise apartments in downtown Sacramento with high-rise and midrise condominiums, will go before the City Council. The council meets at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 915 I St., Sacramento.

Rocklin weighs downtown renewal project

The Rocklin City Council will consider purchasing a 14,000-square-foot parcel on Front Street across from St. Mary’s Chapel as part of a downtown renewal effort. The city is proposing to build a Front Street Plaza to accommodate street fairs and cultural events. The council meets at 6 p.m., council chambers, 3970 Rocklin Road, Rocklin.

• Kids 12 and under receive free admission and rides are $2 at the California State Fair in a promotion sponsored by Wells Fargo. The fair starts at 11 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m., 1600 Exposition Blvd., Sacramento.
• The Sacramento Public Library is offering animal events this afternoon. Python Ron will visit Colonial Heights Library with reptiles and insects at 3:30 p.m., 4799 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento. Nature’s Critters will appear at the Belle Cooledge Library, 4 p.m., 5600 S. Land Park Drive, Sacramento.
