Passenger killed, driver injured after solo crash on Interstate 80 in Sacramento County
A passenger was killed and a driver was injured in a Sunday morning freeway crash involving a sedan in Foothill Farms.
The single-vehicle crash happened around 12:45 p.m. on the offramp of westbound Interstate 80 to Greenback Lane and Elkhorn Boulevard, according to Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District spokesman Capt. Parker Wilbourn.
The cause of the crash was unknown, and a call to the California Highway Patrol’s North Sacramento office wasn’t immediately returned.
The vehicle veered off the roadway, Wilbourn said, and onto the offramp. The passenger died shortly after the crash, he said.
“It’s important for drivers to slow down and pay attention to the road and not be distracted,” Wilbourn said.
Several lanes of I-80 were closed for nearly two hours as crews cleaned up the scene.
