More than 20,000 lost power in northern Sacramento County after sudden outage, SMUD says

More than 20,000 homes and businesses in northern Sacramento County lost power Tuesday afternoon, utility officials said.

The outages, concentrated in the Natomas and Rio Linda areas, began shortly before 1:15 p.m., according to an outage map Sacramento Municipal Utility District website.

Power was restored to virtually all customers by 3 p.m., the SMUD website showed.

The cause of the outages was unknown, SMUD said. The utility’s website gave an estimated restoration time of 2:15 p.m.
