Raging Waters water park has a new owner. Here’s what could change
The water park at Cal Expo will live on, with a new operator announcing plans this week to take over the site that had been known for the past 15 years as Raging Waters.
Silverwood Entertainment, a Las Vegas-based company, recently signed a letter of intent to operate the water park, CEO Steven Dooner said Tuesday in an emailed response.
“Considering its age, our first objective is to determine what needs to be replaced and/or updated,” Dooner wrote. “There have been a lot of advancements in the waterpark industry over the past several decades, and the Cal Expo site needs many of them.”
Changes will include a new name and theme, which have yet to be determined, Dooner said. Members of the company’s engineering and design teams plan to visit the site later this month to begin assessments, after which Dooner said more details may be released.
Silverwood also looks to make improvements “that would turn the facility into a year-round destination,” he said.
Officials with Cal Expo did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Palace Entertainment, which had operated the park at Sacramento’s fairgrounds site since 2007 under the Raging Waters brand, announced in November that it had terminated its lease.
Cal Expo officials in a statement last year said Raging Waters could not turn a profit during the COVID-19 pandemic.
