Sacramento is about to switch its watering days. Here’s when you can use your sprinkler
As spring approaches, Sacramento’s watering schedule changes to allow residents to tend to their lawns during the hotter months.
March 1 through Oct. 31 Sacramento residents can water their yards two days a week, as the city moves to its spring and summer watering schedule.
“As the days get longer — and lawns get thirstier coming out of their dormant state — it’s important to remember the City’s seasonal watering schedule.” said William Granger, a water conservation coordinator, in a February news release.
Here’s what you should know as Sacramento watering schedule changes.
Watering guidelines
Sacramento will add an additional day to its weekly watering schedule. This allows for residents to use sprinklers two days a week instead of one. Automatic sprinklers can be used before 10 a.m. or after 7 p.m.
The watering schedule for businesses and residents is based on property address.
- Residents and businesses with odd numbered addresses can water on Tuesday and Saturday.
- Residents and business with even numbered addresses can water on Wednesday and Sunday.
One thing to note: Sacramento residents can water by hand any day of the week. The watering schedule only applies to sprinklers.
“Despite the recent series of storms that hit California in January, we are far from being out of danger when it comes to drought conditions,” said Mayor Darrell Steinberg in the news release.
California drought conditions have held steady in the last couple weeks, following improvement after January storms. Rain is in the forecast for the end of February — even so, it’s slight and temporary relief.
