Nearly 14,000 homes and businesses lost power after Thursday night’s windy rain storm in Sacramento.

Meteorologist Katrina Hand with the National Weather Service said the toughest winds whipped Thursday night between 40 mph and 55 mph across the area. Some good news: The strongest winds are behind us.

A wind advisory, which went into effect Thursday morning for the region, will end 4 p.m. Friday. Until then, expect a breezy morning with gusts from 15 mph to 25 mph throughout the day.

As of Friday morning, according to Sacramento Municipal Utility District’s power outage map, more than 400 people are still without power. Those most affected are in Arden, Florin and near the Sacramento Executive Airport.

Hand said winds are forecast to settle by Friday evening, but drivers should remain extra vigilant on the roads.

“We are still encouraging people to drive with caution,” she said “especially when you combine the breezy winds with the rain.”

Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to pick back up after 5 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service. After that, rain is predicted on and off until at least Wednesday. Winds will pick back up Sunday.
