Southwest will add nonstop service from Sacramento to Music City starting in March, with direct flights to Nashville eventually available on both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday-only service from Sacramento International to Nashville International Airport begins March 11, airport officials announced Friday. Service will expand to Saturday and Sunday flights beginning Sept. 9 and 10, say officials.

Tickets are on sale for the new flights, Sacramento airport officials noted.

Nashville has become a popular destination for Californians, both as a getaway and for those looking to put down roots.

“This new nonstop route also marks a significant milestone for SMF as Nashville is one of the top five underserved markets for our airport,” Cindy Nichol, director of the Sacramento County Department of Airports, said in a statement Friday announcing the new route. “We are confident that this route will be popular with both Sacramento and Nashville passengers.”
