Sacramento teen dies after his motorcycle hits car turning into parking lot, CHP says
A 17-year-old Sacramento boy died Thursday morning after his motorcycle — which had been moving at an “excessive speed” — struck a car turning left into a south Sacramento parking lot, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Medics from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District pronounced the teen dead at the scene, according to a news release from the CHP South Sacramento Area Office.
Wilson Wilfredo Solares Cat was the teen who died in the motorcycle crash Thursday, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
The fatal crash occurred about 8:15 a.m. on Elsie Avenue, just east of Stockton Boulevard.
A 71-year-old Sacramento man was driving a 2004 Honda Accord west on Elsie and stopped in a left turn lane to wait for eastbound traffic to clear before making a left turn into the business parking lot, the CHP said.
The teen was driving a 2023 Kawasaki Ninja 600 motorcycle east on Mack Road and approaching the Stockton Boulevard intersection at “an excessively high rate of speed,” according to the CHP news release.
The man driving the Honda observed eastbound vehicle traffic on Elsie was clear and moved his car forward while turning left into the eastbound lanes.
The CHP said the motorcyclist moved through Stockton Boulevard intersection and continued east on Elsie Avenue at an “excessive speed” as it approached the turning Honda Accord.
The teen spotted the Honda Accord ahead and applied the motorcycle’s brakes. The CHP said the teen was unable to stop the motorcycle and crashed into the car’s right side.
The Honda Accord’s driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators before he was released, according to the CHP. Investigators do not suspect that alcohol or drugs were a factor in this fatal crash.
