Could spring finally be coming to Sacramento? Here’s what weekend weather forecasts show

Weather update

Sunny skies and temperatures that could nudge 80 degrees in some spots are in store for later this weekend, forecasters say, as a soggy Sacramento region finally gives way to springtime weather.

Showers overnight Thursday hung around into Friday morning across the region, but the afternoon’s dry weather is setting up a warming trend into early next week that will push Sacramento-area readings into the mid- and high 70s on Sunday and Monday, said National Weather Service forecasters in Sacramento.

The wet weather turned to snow in the higher elevations Friday, forcing chain requirements for a time on eastbound Interstate 80 from Kingvale to Truckee, but restrictions were lifted by early afternoon. Restrictions remained in place on Highway 20 and Highway 89 in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Temperatures will stick to the 60s Saturday in Sacramento with a high of 69 degrees under partly sunny skies before bumping into above-normal 70s on Easter and Monday, forecasts show. In the San Joaquin Valley, Stockton and Modesto are each expected to reach 79 degrees on Monday.

Sacramento’s flirtation with the 70s will be short-lived. By next Thursday, temperatures are expected to return to the mid- to high 60s, weather service forecasts show.
