Police activity in midtown Sacramento shuts down Capital City Freeway, streets near Broadway

Police tape at crime scene

Police closed a portion of the Capital City Freeway and a city street Sunday afternoon as officers attempted “to assist an individual experiencing a mental health crisis” in midtown Sacramento.

Details about the incident were not immediately known, but police said in a social media post just after 1 p.m. that X Street was closed between Riverside Boulevard and 21st Street.

Caltrans then said it had shut down both directions of the W-X portion of the Capital City Freeway between 15th and 16th streets at the request of Sacramento officers.

By 7:30 p.m., both agencies said the incident had been resolved and roadways had reopened.
