Hottest day of the year so far: Can Sacramento kick rain and gloom for a warmer spring?
The week started on a high note: Sunny skies, breezy winds and above-normal high temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service, Monday is forecast to be the hottest day of the year in Sacramento so far with a low of 54 degrees and a high of 80 degrees. The city is on track to beat its normal high for this time of year by nearly 10 degrees, said meteorologist Katrina Hand.
The trend continues across Northern California including Stockton and Modesto (81 degrees). South Lake Tahoe could reach 62 degrees.
The second warmest day of the year so far was on Sunday when temperatures reached a high of 78 degrees, 6 degrees higher than the normal high for the date but 17 degrees shy of the record high set in 1989.
The rest of the week is predicted to be clear and sunny with temperatures fluctuating between low-to-high 70s and low-to-high 40s.
Sacramento will receive a brief break of warmer temperatures between Tuesday and Wednesday when showery rain moves through Redding and northward starting Monday afternoon. Thunderstorms could hit Shasta County.
“The only thing Sacramento will see is maybe some increasing breezy winds and some cloud cover,” Hand said.
Warm temperatures are forecast to return later in the week and last into the weekend.
April 2022 started in the upper 70s to low 80s, Hand said, with slightly cooler weather and warmed up by the end of the month. This time last year temperatures hit nearly 90 degrees.
When will it rain again in Sacramento?
Sacramento is forecast for lower-than-normal precipitation coupled with cooler-than-normal temperatures for April, similar to what meteorologists told The Bee at the beginning of the month.
In Sacramento, 1.44 inches of rain is average.
The city should remain dry for at least the seven days and meteorologists don’t see “anything on the horizon.”
Weak rain could “potentially” show its face next week but it’s too far out to tell, Hand said. It could be more of what we’re expecting in the next couple of days with cooler temperatures and breezy winds.
