Driver killed in crash down steep Yuba County embankment near Brownsville, CHP says
A Walnut Creek man died after a single-vehicle crash Tuesday morning down a steep embankment in rural Yuba County, authorities said.
A sheriff’s deputy around 5:15 a.m. arrived to the scene, along Willow Glen Road south of Brownsville and west of Frenchtown, to find a 2004 Honda Accord that had crashed about 150 feet down an embankment, the California Highway Patrol’s Yuba-Sutter office said in a news release.
The deputy approached the Honda and located a driver, described by the CHP as a 39-year-old man from Walnut Creek, who had been ejected from the car and suffered fatal injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the news release.
Authorities searched the area on foot and using a CHP helicopter to look for potential additional victims, but none were found, CHP officials wrote.
The crash remains under investigation, and it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were factors, according to the CHP.
The driver’s identity will be released by the Yuba County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
