Authorities on Tuesday removed a car found submerged in the American River near the College/Glen neighborhood of Sacramento.

The submerged car was reported shortly before 11 a.m. in the area of La Riviera Drive and Watt Avenue, according to the Sacramento Fire Department.

Firefighters responded and used a rescue to approach the submerged car. The firefighters determined nobody was inside the car.

Capt. Justin Sylvia, a spokesman for the Fire Department, said Sacramento County park rangers ran the black car’s license plate through a law enforcement database. Sylvia said the car had not been reported stolen.

Authorities were trying to determine how it got in the river? Sylvia said there were no apparent signs that car was involved in a crash before it went into the river. He said the vehicle “looked all intact.”
