An animal shelter in Sacramento this week was looking for homes for 58 cats recently rescued from a hoarding situation, and officials there were waiving adoption fees.

The rescued cats are “in desperate need of homes,” staff from the Front Street Animal Shelter wrote Tuesday evening in a Facebook post. The shelter shared in the Facebook post a photo of the cats crowded on kitchen appliances and cabinets of their former home.

“These kitties are very scared at the shelter, and while many are starting to come around, they will likely be shy cats and we’re worried they won’t find adopters,” shelter staff wrote in the Facebook post. “We’re counting on you to spread the word!”

Shelter staff said the Fieldhaven Feline Center in Lincoln, which specializes in shy cats, will be providing advice to adopters after they go home. All the cats will come “fixed, chipped, and vaccinated,” and their adoption fees are waived, staff said.

The Front Street Animal Shelter can be reached at 916-808-7387 and is open seven days a week from noon to 5 p.m. at 2127 Front St. downtown.
