Mourners to gather tonight in Sacramento’s Northgate area after crash killed 3, injured 8
Neighbors and community leaders are mourning the loss of three people who died following a vehicle crash Wednesday evening in Sacramento’s Northgate neighborhood, and reaching out to provide support as one adult and seven children remain hospitalized with serious injuries.
A sedan that authorities said was occupied by 11 people crashed into a tree near the 900 block of San Juan Road around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday. First responders located two adults along with nine children, ages 3 to 8, the Sacramento Police Department said in statements.
One of the adults was pronounced dead at the scene. Two of the children, ages 3 and 5, died at hospitals, the Police Department said in an update posted Thursday morning to social media.
City Councilwoman Karina Talamantes said resources would be provided Thursday evening in an event at the Point Natomas Apartments, 801 San Juan Road, including “trauma response services” provided by the Police Department, Fire Department and chaplains. It will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
“I am working closely with our Sacramento Police Department and Sacramento Fire Department on securing resources and services for our community impacted by this tragic incident,” Talamantes, who represents the Northgate area, said Thursday in a statement.
“The investigation of the collision is ongoing, and the status of the surviving individuals range from serious to critical. We are waiting for more information and will host a vigil once updates are available. Our hearts are with the families impacted.”
The three deceased victims’ identities had not been released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as of midday Thursday.
