Another lane split is coming to this major Sacramento freeway. Here’s where and when

Traffic Alert

If you’re headed out Friday on the W-X portion of the Capital City Freeway (signed as Highway 50), expect some delays, Caltrans said.

As a part of the Highway 50 Corridor Enhancement Project, also known as Fix50, the department will split the westbound lanes of the Capital City’s W-X freeway after the 26th Street exit.

The lane switch will start Friday morning.

What this means

Starting Friday, drivers on the westbound W-X, the western portion of the Capital City Freeway, will need to stay in the third and fourth lane to the right to exit 16th and 10th Street, or northbound or southbound Interstate 5.

Drivers in the first or second lane to the left will not be able to use these exits or ramps.

What you should do

Caltrans advises that people use the northbound or southbound I-5, instead of northbound Highway 99 or the northern portion of the Capital City Freeway to avoid delays.

If you’re on the highway, look out for lane restrictions and work vehicles in the area, the department stated. The speed limit at the work zone is 55 mph and there will be patrols in the area.

What’s the project?

The Fix50 project is an effort to rehabilitate the highway pavement, improve drainage, add lighting and other enhancements.
