‘We’re testing some things out.’ Sacramento Kings lighting beam tonight over Golden 1 Center

Sacramento’s token laser will illuminate the sky Wednesday night even though the NBA season ended Monday when the Denver Nuggets beat the Miami Heat to win the league crown.

While not for a Kings victory, Golden 1 Center’s beam will be lighted because team officials are “testing some things out,” according to the team’s social media accounts.

Tim Anderson, owner of Nu-Salt Laser in Folsom and creator of the beam, did not respond to requests for comment.

Anderson built the beam, or what he calls a “laser space cannon,” roughly eight years ago. He said in November that he sees it as a beacon to make everyone in Sacramento want to gather in one area.

After each Kings victory this past season, staff at Golden 1 Center blast a ray of light toward the heavens using a multiple high-powered lasers. At first, it was a quartet, now six 300-watt cannons are used to power the purple ray.

At only a total of 1,800 watts, the beam’s power is the same amount needed to run one cycle of an average dishwasher.
