Death in Sacramento’s Parkway area marks city’s seventh homicide death in five days

Police tape at crime scene

Homicide detectives are investigating a man’s death Friday morning in Sacramento’s Parkway neighborhood.

Officers responded shortly before 4 a.m. for a death investigation in the area of Mack Road and La Mancha Way, just west of Highway 99, according to a Sacramento Police Department news release.

A man was found dead with “apparent traumatic injuries,” according to the police news release. Detectives responded to the scene, canvassed the area and interviewed witnesses. No suspect information is available, authorities said.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.

Westbound Mack Road reopened to traffic Friday morning but reopened around 11:30 a.m., the Police Department said.

The incident marks at least the seventh homicide death responded to by the Sacramento Police Department within a span of five days, across five incidents.

Two people died after a shooting Monday afternoon in Old North Sacramento; police say it is possible the two men involved in that incident shot each other.

Two others were killed in a suspected drive-by shooting Tuesday night in Del Paso Heights. A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of homicide in connection with the drive-by, police said Friday.

A man died following a shooting Wednesday evening on Center Parkway in Sacramento’s Valley Hi / North Laguna neighborhood.

Another person was killed in a shooting early Thursday morning on San Jose Way in Sacramento’s Oak Park neighborhood.

Sacramento police tallied 54 homicide deaths in all of 2022, for an average of just more than one per week.
