Sacramento’s infamous heat returns this week, just in time for the July 4 weekend.

A triple-digit heat wave is expected to bake the area starting Friday until Sunday, the National Weather Service stated. The agency is warning residents of a major heat risk and that the high temperatures can be dangerous for anyone who doesn’t have adequate cooling or hydration.

It advises that people cancel outdoor activities during the heat, stay hydrated and remain in a cool place.

How high will temperatures go?

Starting Monday, temperatures will steadily increase to triple-digits by Thursday.

Monday’s high is at 85 degrees with lows around 56 degrees, and Tuesday’s is at 86 with lows near 57. Wednesday will see temperatures near 90 degrees in the day and 59 at night.

Thursday is expected to break 100 degrees, with a low near 62.

Friday’s high is expected near 103, with a low around 65. Saturday is forecast to be the hottest day of the week with a high near 104. Sunday is expected near 101 degrees.

The forecast doesn’t extend to July 4 yet, but Scott Rowe, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said that it will likely remain warm. It’s too early to say for sure, but it’ll probably be above normal, he said.

Normal temperatures for July 4 are about 94 degrees. The highest temperature recorded for July 4 is 110 degrees in 2013.
