Pedestrian killed near Auburn Boulevard in Citrus Heights identified as 82-year-old woman

Pedestrian fatality

A woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday night in Citrus Heights, authorities said.

The fatal accident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. on eastbound Antelope Road between Lauppe Lane and Auburn Boulevard, near Rusch Community Park, according to Citrus Heights Police Department spokesman Lt. Ken Lewis.

Officers arrived on scene and located a pedestrian lying on the sidewalk, police said. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene after officers attempted lifesaving efforts, Lewis said. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the victim Wednesday as Vira Zheltonozhko, 82, of Citrus Heights.

Officers said the driver was not injured. It was unclear whether drugs, alcohol or speed was a factor, authorities said.

The road was closed for several hours while police investigated the collision.

Lewis said the department is asking any witnesses to the collision to contact the Citrus Heights police at 916-727-5500.
