Part of popular Sacramento-area trail is closed. Beware of guard dog, officials say
A portion of the River Walk Trail at the Cosumnes River Preserve in Sacramento County is closed headed into the July 4 holiday weekend.
The closure began in mid June, and on Friday the right portion of the three-mile trail along the river will reopen 3 p.m. The left side remains closed with fencing and signs warning visitors not to enter.
An active guard dog is on duty.
Sheep are working to remove invasive species as well as reduce fire fuels near mile marker 13, according to a Facebook post from Cosumnes River Preserve.
In a June 21 Facebook post, officials said the trail should be closed for no more than two weeks. Updates will be posted to the page.
