Roadway fatality

A woman is dead and three other people were injured after a vehicle struck a group of pedestrians Sunday evening in the River District of downtown Sacramento.

The driver of the vehicle, whom police said was driving under the influence, was taken into custody following the crash.

Just after 6:30 p.m., officers responded to multiple reports of the collision near Richards Boulevard and Jibboom Street, the Sacramento Police Department said in a statement.

Once at the scene, police said officers located two juveniles and one adult. They were transported to the hospital for critical injuries, and a 38-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a news release Monday afternoon, officers said 27-year-old Israel Campos, the driver of the vehicle, was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. The department’s Major Collision Investigations Unit is still investigated the crash, police said.

The identity of the fatal victim is expected to be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
