California State Fair will kick off on ‘dangerously’ hot weekend. Here’s what to expect
If you plan to visit the California State Fair this opening weekend, beware of “dangerously” hot weather.
The mostly outdoor fair kicks off Friday morning at Cal Expo in Sacramento, the same day an excessive heat watch goes into effect for portions of Northern California including the Sacramento Valley.
In the capital city, temperatures could reach a high of 104 degrees and a low of 69 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The warmest day of the weekend is predicted to be Saturday with a high of 109 degrees and a low of 70 degrees.
Elsewhere, temperatures are predicted to range from 98 degrees to 113 degrees.
The heat watch ends Monday evening.
Where can I cool down at the California State Fair?
The National Weather Service warns people to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and out of the sun.
If you visit the state fair this weekend when temperatures are predicted to reach their warmest, know where the air-conditioned buildings are located:
- California buildings A, B, C, and D
- Expo Center (buildings 1 through 8)
- The Tractor Supply Co. Big Barn
- Satellite Wagering Center at the Miller Lite Racetrack Grandstand
- Guest services
Cool Spots are located across the fair including misting stations and cool-down and charge-up stations designed for guests to cool down and charge their phone.
