15-year-old girl ejected from backseat in fatal Granite Bay crash involving teen drivers

Roadway fatality

A 15-year-old girl was killed Sunday evening in a vehicle collision in Granite Bay.

The girl was a backseat passenger in a Jeep Rubicon that was traveling at an unknown speed westbound on Douglas Boulevard at 5:40 p.m. The Jeep, driven by a 16-year-old boy, failed to stop at a red light at the intersection with Barton Road, the California Highway Patrol said.

As it traveled through the intersection, the Jeep was “broadsided” by a Cadillac Escalade that was making a left turn on a green light, according to a news release.

The Jeep overturned, partially ejecting the girl in the backseat. She, along with the driver and a second passenger of the Jeep, were transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center for treatment.

The 15-year-old girl later succumbed to her injuries.

“The crash investigation is ongoing,” the California Highway Patrol said.
